It's a good thing she's so CUTE!

Here's a picture of Emily from today. Last Thursday at 4AM, Emily decided she was going to go on a nursing strike. It took me 2 hours to get her latched on for only 5 minutes of eating. OUCH! The strike lasted almost 2 days until I was able to get in touch with a local La Leche League leader who talked me through a few tips on how to get her nursing again. IT WORKED!! In the mean time, I pumped milk and cried the whole time Aaron fed her the bottle. (I WASN'T ready to give up nursing after only 6 days!!) I paid $30 to visit a lactation consultant from the hospital who informed me that I was doing everything right and that Emily was just being stubborn. (Money well spent there.) At least she's back to being a good eater. Unfortunately, she's already gotten the her first cold thanks to the kids. So much for trying to keep everyone healthy. At least it hasn't affected her ability or desire to nurse. Now if I can just figure how to NOT have sore nipples. You would think that by my 3rd child, my boobs would be used to being chomped on but sadly no....

Hi Heather,
I hope this doesn't post the same comment twice. Congrats on your newest addition. She is so darn cute. After I had Meeya I was so sore. I was introduced to these things called soothies. I thought they were wonderful and it really helped me. It also helps with the drying and cracking. You stick them on you and they can stay on all the time. Then right before you nurse you wipe off the nipple. If it gets too bad, while you are nursing stick them in the freezer and then put them back on you. Give it a try. I got mine at Riteaid. I think they are around $10.00. Worth it for me.
Good luck!!!

P.S. I am in the process of getting my blog started I will let you know when its done. :)

I was just thinking I needed another Emily fix. She is so cute. Sorry about the nursing problems. I know all about that. Wish I had some good advice....

It's been so long for me, I have no advice. I can't get over her hair! I LOVE it!

Yup I am a BIG soothie fan. You can typically get them in the baby section at places like Rite Aid, etc. We've even seen them at Albertson's. I got my first pair at a little store on the first floor of the Provo hospital. People don't believe me and if I were there, it would have been your baby shower gift. Don't ask about how my first experience nursing was without soothies...lots of stories.

The first thing I ask a new mom is: how is the nursing going? I don't know that that is a good social question, but I know how much it hurts, and I found it helpful to talk with people who could understand and possibly help me.

Nothing is worse than sore nipples and fussy babies! Good Luck and I hope it will get better. Just work realy hard to not get a breast infection - those are awful.

Ouch! Been there too!! Just had to comment on the soft blankie Emily is laying on in this photo. Emma LOVES her "kiki" like this. She loves it so much we had to buy another one for a "spare"!
