Flashback Friday

Today is my (Heather's) 1/2 birthday. Aaron still laughs that I acknowledge this, but it's the halfway point to my next birthday. Since my birthday is in early September, it usually came during the last few days of summer before school started. It was in early morning seminary my junior & senior year where the teacher acknowledged the 1/2 birthdays of the students that had birthdays during the summer so that we could celebrate everyone's birthday. It just sort of stuck with me. I don't expect presents or for anyone to even remember. It's just a fun thing for me.
In honor of my 1/2 birthday, I came across this picture of an actual birthday when I probably turned 6 or 7. I laughed when I saw this picture because it brought back several memories and my obsession with Barbie. I had a Barbie house, a horse, a Corvette, a Motorhome, the Barbie Dream Pool, and I remember having a garden bathtub (that made bubbles) and a studio/office. I LOVED playing Barbies. Most of the big items didn't survive the years of play but I did keep several of my Barbie dolls and most of the clothes, accessories, & furniture. Kaya now loves to play Barbies and has enjoyed playing with all my old dolls. I knew I saved all this stuff for a reason!!

I never got into the Barbie thing. I remember owning one of the dolls, and it wasn't even Barbie. It was Diva, the red-headed girl in her rock band.

There was one Christmas when I asked for a dollhouse. I wanted the kind that has the teeny tiny furniture and you just look at it. When I came downstairs Christmas morning, what was sitting under the tree? The Barbie Hotel. It was that moment that I knew there was no Santa Claus.

I always think of my half birthday too because it is on Christmas Eve. Every year I say, "Today is my half birthday" on Christmas Eve and people just kind of look at me like, "Who cares!" I always felt jipped as a kid...with a summer birthday, I couldn't bring cupcakes to school and have everyone ooh and aah over me on my day. And, with my half birthday being on Christmas Eve, we weren't in school that day either!!! Oh, the emotional scars of childhood...I think I turned out o.k. inspite of it all. :)

I totally wanted one of those Barbie dream pools when I was a kid. I ended up getting the Barbie Car! Love the pic.

Hope your pregnancy is going well!

right on sista! I love Barbies. I am not of a fan of the new bratz dolls aka hoochies in training. but Eden has many of my old babrie thigs as well. Mainly the clothes. I used to save money and when we would go to Utah or a friend would I would have them buy me barbie clothes at those crafty shops. I love them!
